Bunions (hallux valgus)

An often painful condition that makes wearing closed footwear difficult

Bunions

A bunion is a common problem that causes a bump to develop on the inside of the foot at the base of the big toe.

Over time, the big toe gradually moves towards the smaller toes, which can make shoes uncomfortable and lead to soreness, redness, or swelling around the joint.

Bunions often run in families and can be made worse by tight or narrow shoes, flat feet, or certain types of arthritis.

Treatment Options

In many cases, bunion symptoms can be eased with simple measures such as wearing wider shoes, using soft pads to protect the area, or trying custom insoles to improve foot alignment.

If pain continues despite these steps, surgery can be an effective way to straighten the toe and relieve discomfort. Modern surgical techniques are designed to correct the bunion, improve the shape of the foot, and help you return to comfortable footwear and an active lifestyle as quickly as possible.
